Children’s hospital of the future

Building a family-centred and future-proof healthcare system for children, parents and professionals.

With a transdisciplinary and systems approach, we connect medical, technical, and social sciences with the experiences of healthcare professionals, parents, and children. Together, we develop innovative and feasible healthcare solutions that contribute to accessible, personalized, and sustainable care.

Our work is primarily centred around three key focus areas:

1.Telemedicine – Bringing healthcare closer to home and across intramural borders by leveraging digital solutions and remote care.

2.Robotics in healthcare – Exploring how robotics can relieve healthcare staff and improve the quality of care and the well-being of patients.

3.Job satisfaction and well-being of paediatric nurses – Ensuring that healthcare professionals experience joy and fulfilment in their work, leading to better care for children and families.

We seek answers to crucial questions: Which healthcare services can be provided closer to home instead of in the hospital? How can we make care more targeted and personalized? How can we shorten hospital stays? How can we effectively integrate new technologies into healthcare systems? And in what ways can we improve the experience of children, parents, and healthcare providers alike?

By being smart and  wise about our use of technology and organizing care efficiently, we create more space for personal attention and job satisfaction. This not only leads to better care for patients but also fosters a work environment where healthcare professionals can work with fulfilment and joy. In this way, we strengthen the healthcare system and build a future in which healthcare remains family-centred, sustainable, and affordable.

If you have any questions about this ambition or would like to contribute, please contact Saba Hinrichs-Krapels or Rob Taal.
