Healthy Start – Transformative Research Meeting

Can adolescents be gamechangers for 21st century societal challenges?

Please note – this event is on invite only

In this workshop we seek to advance a more integrative and actionable understanding of adolescence as a window of opportunity for societal contribution, defined as providing support and resources to other individuals or communities. Becoming an engaged and contributing member to society represents a major developmental milestone for adolescents, especially in times of major global societal challenges and polarization. Adolescents’ contributions to society are beneficial in multiple ways: helping adolescents to make meaningful contributions not only empowers them and their healthy development, but adolescents’ contributions are also beneficial to society because adolescents can help to shape the future society in innovative ways, for example through novel technology. There is a compelling need to better understand how adolescents’ contribution behaviors arise, are motivated, and evolve across development. We will discuss how we can build a richer knowledge base based on complementary research methods that can inform policies and practices that can support the development of social contribution behaviors.
