Healthy Start Ambition Lead, Pediatrician, Associate Professor Developmental Epidemiology
Romy Gaillard is a pediatrician and epidemiologist at Erasmus MC, where she also serves as an Ambition Lead within Healthy Start. Her research focuses on early life influences on health, particularly within the Generation R cohort study. She investigates how factors such as maternal metabolic profiles and cord blood biomarkers affect fetal growth, birth outcomes, and long-term health.
Recently, she contributed to studies predicting adolescent obesity using multivariate prediction models. She has co-authored papers on metabolite profiles and early growth indicators and reframed important insights into obesogenic environments during the embryonic period.
As an Ambition Lead within Healthy Start, she works on integrated approaches in the ambition ‘The first 1,000 days and a resilient life course’ and is involved in Sprint projects. Romy is committed to translating scientific findings into prevention and daily practice, ensuring that knowledge from before and during pregnancy can meaningfully support families.
